Anti-Aid Anti-Red Nose Day: How To Really Help Africa

Recently, the African Economics Expert James Shikwati gave an interview with Spiegel entitled "For God's Sake, Please Stop the Aid!" This is a very interesting area of debate.

The West, and at least Britain, is well known for is aid giving to Africa and third world nations. A case in point is Red-Nose day.

What if it's doing more harm than good? I first came across this alternative way of thinking through this cause on Facebook but found the above interview of supreme importance.

IQ2US marks the launch of Oxford-style debating -- one motion, one moderator, three advocates for the motion, three against -- in New York City. Each evening begins at 6:00P with a complimentary cocktail period. As you enter the theater before the debate starts at 6:45P, you cast your vote for or against the evening's motion. Those results are displayed midway through the debate as each side makes its statements. After all six panelists speak, the audience has a chance to ask the speakers questions and vote again. The debate finishes with brief summations from the panelists, the votes are tallied and a winning side is declared.


Another very interesting article on the topic is by Alex Kurtagić entitled 'We Aren't the World: Resisting Liberal Imperialism'. The original article was called 'Geldof's Folly' but that was "A primitive version of" 'We Aren't The World' which "superceded the early one".
